DESCRIPTION:As part of the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival is the exhibition 'Echoes of Others\, Gaps Amidst Translation'. In today's world\, new forms of digital technologies  facilitate global communication\, traversing the once impermeable  political and geographic borders in unprecedented and unimaginable ways.  What are the consequences of our globalised world on the way we relate  to and communicate with those around us? How does the translation of  information affect our responses to human rights and global issues?    In the context of this exhibition\, echoes become a  way of reflecting these ambiguous translations. The work exhibited  explores echoes both materially and conceptually\, as voices are  silenced\, images fade\, and meaning is reconstructed. DESCRIPTION:The Carousel is a video performance lecture that pries open the crypt of cinema’s undead.  Navigating  through a matrix of film samples\, Soda_Jerk draw out the peculiar  temporality of cinema and the spectacle of death that lurks beneath it.  This work emerged from the artists ongoing investigation of hauntology\,  an area of research that also informs their video series The Dark Matter  Cycle. Developed during studio residencies at Fremantle Art Centre  and Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin\, The Carousel will be presented in  Sydney as part of the University of Technology's annual Image Studies  Lecture Series\, hosted by the department of Photography and Situated  Media.

DESCRIPTION:Kabul Kids began as a photography initiative by Sydney-based photographer Palwesha Yusaf in 2009\, which gave six Afghanistani children the opportunity to document their life from behind the lens.
