RT @hellobrendan: Rodchenko 120 poster exhibition, now on at Melbourne Museum as part of @agIdeas - http://t.co/iKw1z1ZI
Think that your latest canvas is less masterpiece and more ‘meh’? Artist Michael Landy has a solution for you. Throw it in the bin. And not just any old bin, his giant 600m³ bin.
Taking up most of the South London Gallery, the enormous bin will gradually fill up as people discard their art works in it, ultimately creating, in Michael Landy’s words, “a monument to creative failure”. ‘Art Bin’ toys with the role of art institutions in making and possibly breaking careers, acknowledges their important role in the art market, and makes reference to the derision with which contemporary art is sometimes treated.
So far, Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin have participated, throwing some of their pieces away, however you don’t need to be part of the YBA to participate, anyone can apply to dispose their of art works by submitting their details on the website.
This is not the first time Landy has delt with themes of disposal, destruction, value and ownership. In his 2001 exhibtion Break Down, all of his 7,006 possesions (including his Saab 900 car!) were placed on a conveyor belt in London’s Oxford street and destroyed.

seems like with the application process and all, just to dump a failed work may get people putting in their better work trying to get some recognition.
interesting idea tho
