New Earth is an exhibition of photographs by Jacob Ring, opening at Gallery 2010 this Thursday the 20th of September. You may be familiar with Ring’s collaborations with Mark Gowing on the Preservation label. He’s also the lens behind many of Bianca Chang’s works.
Featuring almost 100 images, the exhibition was curated by Joseph Allen Shea, who had the following to say about Ring’s photography:
Jacob Ring’s art is motivated by a compulsion to represent the grand and small wonders of this planet. With an adroit and infectious optimism, Ring’s New Earth series radiates a sublime connectedness from a singular perspective. Ring’s photographic artworks are a personal, intuitive and decidedly internal take on an earth we all know. The earth we all know from varied personal experiences.
Ring’s lucid and hyper real photographs defy the precision of the medium. One could argue the work is attempting documentary, but a decidedly subjective and self-referential documentary that positions it firmly in the realm of art. Realising that each of our shared realities belong to only ourselves, Ring creates an abstract encyclopaedia depicting his own personal wisdom.
New Earth will be accompanied by a limited release, 32-page publication by Izrock Pressings.
