Twitter, currently the third largest social networking site, has unleashed its aim to reach one billion users.  No specific time frame has been given, but the claim was made by Twitter’s co-founders, Biz Stone and Evan Williams at a recent meeting in San Francisco to discuss the future of Twitter.

According to the official Twitter blog, in the two years that Twitter has been around, it’s grown from three million registered users to around 165 million registered users, recording about 90 million tweets per day!

If Twitter were to reach one billion users, it would mean an increase of around six times the current amount of registered users.

Williams revealed that Twitter has a current adoption rate of 1.8 million users per week, so it could be reaching the one billion mark pretty soon…
