British TV series, Grand Designs, has successfully opened up the world of unusual architectural projects to the inquiring viewer.
The show has been running in the UK since 1999 and has seen everything from underground homes to extravagant mansions, with each show hosted by Kevin McCloud.
Series Eight has just been released in Australia on DVD and showcases eight new interesting builds from around the UK – from an enormous loft style apartment hidden underground in the middle of a field to a prototype factory made kit house built in just four weeks.

Love it, love it!!! My kids and husband all know this is my favourite show and they usually sit down and watch it with me. It usually sparks great family debate about our favourite rooms and what sort of “Grand Design” we’ll create one day.

This show is inspirational and entertaining and for some reason also keeps my 16 year old and 12 year old entranced as well as my wife and myself.

kevin mccloud the British designer, writer and television presenter. I have seen all the shows of him and I was struck by is the colour choice he has.The Woodbridge episode shown on ABC in Australia. Apart from the beauty and practicality of the end result, the story and the way it was handled, had me in tears.
Would love to win Series 8 – hubby and I are MASSIVE fans. It’s so inspirational. Thinking about Grand Designs now, I have the theme song playing over and over in my head! So catchy! lol
