KeepCup has made a huge impression since launching its first products in 2009. Designed by leading industrial design firm CobaltNiche, the cups are beautiful, highly functional and re-usable, designed to reduce wastage and the resulting environmental impact of disposable cups. KeepCup came to Lava early in 2010 wanting a full redevelopment of its online setup. They wanted to give users an interactive and highly custom experience, and enable marketing activities such as promotional codes and a ‘Buddy’ system.

The showpiece of the new site is the ‘Design my KeepCup’ feature. Lava took 3D renders from CobaltNiche, then animated these to show the cup in different states (e.g. 360 degree spin, plug twist, etc.). The user can interact with the cup by selecting a custom colour for each aspect of the cup (e.g. lid colour, band, plug, etc.). These selections are instantly applied to the 3D cup. This functions in a similar way to the NikeID site. The colours available are dynamically pulled out of the management system that Lava built for KeepCup, and they can add and remove these via HEX numbers. Once a user has made their selection, they are able to proceed through a fully integrated online payment process.
