Although having formally studied graphic design, van Empel’s biography is packed with
a wide range of pursuits, from artistic director to theater designer. His first solo exhibition was back in 1999, and since he has gained quite a following, picking up a prize or two along the way.

The Office series is a beautiful collection of images. Van Empel’s photographs include real-life figures but are more often than not, largely surreal. The Office #41 in particular emits something of a Willy Wonka feel, packed with wonderful colours and a sense of whimsy. The delicate patterns alone are enough to keep you occupied all morning!
