Nobody enjoys doing the washing. It is a domestic chore that bores young and old alike. But designer, Lee-Wei Chen seeks to change that, by creating a washing machine that combines arcade-inspired gaming with ordinary appliances called the Real Play.
The Real Play is a prototype that simultaneously pokes fun at the mundanity of domestic life and highlights the need to shake things up in the areas of appliance manufacturing and design.
Lee-Wei Chen explains the way in which the Real Play is expected to operate:
“With electronic circuits linked, the washing cycle becomes animated and dependent upon the gamer’s skill and progress. Failure to progress beyond a certain gaming level means the wash will similarly fail to progress beyond the corresponding cycle stage, requiring the insertion of more coins to permit further attempts.”
This would definitely make time pass by faster when paying a visit to the laundromat.
