It was a mildly chilly night last night in Melbourne as known and unknown/upcoming celebrities hit the red carpet at ACMI for the official opening of Tim Burton: The Exhibition. Among those in attendance to welcome Tim Burton back to ACMI (he’s been popping in and out all week) were Magda Szubanski, John Safran, Peter Batchelor (the Minister for the Arts), Eric Bana, Margaret Pomeranz, and a host more, plus, directly from the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), Glenn Lowry (Director), and curators Ron Magliozzi, Jenny Ho and Rajendra Roy. Yes, it surely was a gathering of the artistic world’s creme de la creme.

Fans and curious onlookers started gathering early in the evening just to catch a glimpse of Burton, and were thrilled when he stopped to sign autographs and pose for photos. While some remained composed and calm as they held their camera at arm’s length and huddled next to a smiling Burton, others screamed and shrieked like banshees as he drew nearer. To say the least, he did not disappoint. Meanwhile, inside guests sipped on poison bottles (Bloody Mary) and nibbled canapes to prepare themselves for the awaiting exhibition downstairs (click here for more photos of the exhibition).
