Zines, zines, zines

Zines, zines, zines

I remember the fist thing I ever published was a ‘zine for a local Melbourne band. I think we only ever ran to three issues because none of us had the time to devote to making anything more, and ’back then’ we had to type everything on an old electric typewriter and then hand stick everything to A4 pages, ready for photocopying. We didn’t have a computer or printer. Back then photocopies were 20 cents a page and this made producing our own ‘zine with no advertising to speak of pretty expensive… Oh and did I mention this was only in 1998 – just 11 years ago! Scary isn’t it. Now we have access to InDesign and cheap colour printers so producing our own mini publications is much easier, and though I never had such luxuries I still have an unwavering admiration for those out there who self-publish. So next time you’re out see if you can find any of these ’zines, and you might be inspired to create your own!
