ACMI has announced its First Look program for March 2013, and to celebrate we are offering a few passes to one of the upcoming films – American Masters: Inventing David Geffen.

The documentary is next in line in the American Masters series which has previously profiled cultural greats from F. Scott Fitzgerald to Judy Garland. American Masters: Inventing David Geffen is directed by Susan Lacy and takes an in-depth look at the life of American record executive, film producer and philanthropist, David Geffen. It took Lacy four years to complete the film and is described as a “classic rags-to-riches tale.” Geffen began his career in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency, and it wasn’t long before the entrepreneurial firebrand struck out on his own making a generation of music – The Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young – synonymous with his name.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Lacy has too many more achievements to explore – little milestones like Geffen Records, Risky Business, Cats and a remarkable philanthropic legacy… to get hung up on talking to anyone who harbours hurt feelings, or witnessed a David Geffen project that didn’t somehow, in the end, turn to gold”.

Thanks for ACMI we have three double passes to American Masters: Inventing David Geffen at ACMI in Melbourne on Thursday 7 March at 7pm. To win just email us at desktopcomp@niche.com.au with your name and contact number. Competition closes Friday 22 February at 5pm.
