agIdeas announces first speaker for 2012

After a few cryptic social media clues, agIdeas has announced its first speaker for the 2012 festival – internationally renowned designer and typographer Marian Bantjes.

The 2012 event will kick off from 21 to 25 May 2012 at MCEC in Melbourne with the usual assortment of forums, workshops, open studios, competitions and of course, the 3-day conference where Bantjes will be speaking.

Bantjes is based on an island off the coast of Vancouver and is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). She is known for her detailed vector art and intricate patterning and type, and has a client-base which includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Penguin Books, GRANTA, Wallpaper*, The Guardian, WIRED and Stefan Sagmeister. In 2010 she released a beautiful book of her artful meanderings, I Wonder – read our interview with her here.

Watch the agIdeas website for more program announcements.
