In December, two of the biggest and most badass names in the art scene will collide in a single exhibition at the  National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, developed by the NGV and The Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), with the participation of Ai Weiwei, will explore the scope of both artists’ careers and present more than 300 works, including new commissions, immersive installations and a wide representation of painting, sculpture, film, photography, music, publishing and social media.

The installations include a major new five metre-tall work from Ai’s chandelier series of crystal and light; a spectacular new installation in the form of a large bed of hundreds of delicate, intricately designed white porcelain flowers; a new room scale installation featuring portraits of Australian advocates for human rights and freedom of speech and information; and a series of new works developed especially by Ai Weiwei in response to key works by Andy Warhol.

Over 200 of Warhol’s most celebrated works will be featured, including paintings and silk-screens such asCampbell’s SoupElectric ChairMaoElvisFlowersand celebrity portraits, sculpture and installation, and an extensive selection of film, music and publishing; including previously unseen work. The exhibition will also bring together a wide range of photography including over 500 Polaroids documenting Warhol’s friends, colleagues, artistic and social milieux.
