Louis Vuitton has just launched a new set of luxury rolling trunks designed by Australian designer Marc Newson.

Alongside the classic monographed models, the new Rolling Luggage collection includes bright orange, pink and yellow versions with only minimal logos. The four-wheeled suitcases come in mini, cabin and maxi sizes and feature extendable handles that retract into the outside edge of the trunks, so as not to interfere with packing space. And the best news? They’re much lighter and more spacious on the inside than previous models.

The smallest of the bags weighs just 2.9 kilograms, but its internal space is 13 per cent larger than similar bags.

The extendable cane handle has also been relocated to the outside of the trunk, allowing for more packing space. Also, a side hinge is built onto the side of the trunk for carrying along with a special lock system that reduces the overall weight.

“We were able to achieve an extraordinary level of lightness through incredibly rigorous engineering,” said Newson, who had previously worked on the creation of Louis Vuitton’s leather and shearling backpack ‘Celebrating Monogram’.

“It was a bit like working in a Formula One set-up. We took the structure and moved it to the outside, where frankly it’s much more needed than the inside – it frees up all this internal space,” he adds.

The range was launched last Friday at Louis Vuitton boutiques in Australia, Paris and Singapore. It will be available worldwide by the end of September.
