Australian Book Design Awards 2014

The Australian Book Design Awards is now proudly in the hands of ABDA: the newly-formed Australian Book Designers Association. For this years competition, they are calling for entries that show brave and bright designs for the most original and beautiful books. The competition is for any book designed and first published in 2013 (from January 1 to December 31), participants should not submit previously published work unless it has been substantially redesigned.

You may supply up to 10 images for each entry, with two non-returnable copies of any shortlisted work for judging, display and archiving. Entries are to be submitted online and viewed digitally by the judges. Once the shortlisting is underway, judges will inspect the books in hardcopy at a participating bookstore in Melbourne and Sydney.

Categories include best designed commercial fiction book, literary fiction, non-fiction, series, fully illustrated (under $50), fully illustrated (over $50), cookbook, educational Primary/Secondary, educational Tertiary, children’s illustrated, children/young adult, children’s fiction, young adult, indie 1000 – as well as Young Designer of the Year and the Design Hall of Fame award which are open to nomination, and Book of the Year, Best Young Adult/Children’s Cover of the Year and Best Cover of the Year to be voted for on the night of the awards.

The awards party will be held in Melbourne on Friday 22 August, from 7pm til late at Krimper, 20 Guildford Lane. Prices range from $60 for members to $75 for non-members, including food and drink. To book, click here.
