Art can sometimes butt heads with science. Art is emotional, limitless and imaginative. It is an expression of creativity in a visual form. Science is factual, measureable and realistic. It is systematically organised knowledge on a specific subject.

But for arts’ sake the two are coming together during the month of August in celebration of National Science Week and 100 years of discoveries with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research.

An exhibition called the Art of Science will be on display in The Atrium at Federation Square as part of the Science in the Square festival running from 5-22 August. The Art of Science features beautiful, intricate images that have been created and captured by scientist. The artworks combine bold colours, lines and patterns allowing the everyday person to get behind the lens and find the true beauty in science. Legend (or years of research unpicking the science of relationships) states that opposites attract. I’m not a science guru by any means, but these eye-catching images are certainly drawing me in.
