Feel and Think – A New Era of Tokyo Fashion

Feel & Think is the most anarchic fashion exhibition to hit Sydney in years and comes with its own integrated pop-up store, fashion film screenings and fashion runway show blurring the divisions between high couture, street wear, art, fashion and performance.

Originally conceived and shown at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2011 in association with Bunka Fashion Research Institute, Bunka Gakuen University, Feel & Think is a dynamic investigation into the contemporary Tokyo fashion scene. The exhibition features five of Japan’s most cutting-edge designers whose curiosity for various aspects of contemporary culture and their diverse interest in art, design, music and cultural pursuits outside of fashion create a fusion between the worlds of fashion, art installation, and theatre.

From the whimsical, geometric, three-dimensional creations of Anrealage and Sasquatchfabrix’s street style; to the interaction between art, fashion and performance by Theatre Products and writtenafterwards; and through to mindesigns’ beautiful prints and patterning, their interaction with other creative disciplines has created a new atmosphere of engagement on the Tokyo runways.

Feel & Think: A New Era of Tokyo Fashion is a Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation initiative exhibited over two sites: the National Art School Gallery hosts art installations by the five fashion groups and Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation is home to fashion film screenings, a pop-up store, the Culture+Ideas discussion series and a fashion runway show presented in partnership with the University of Technology, Sydney.

Feel & Think stands as a collaborative venture, with Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation, the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, Bunka Fashion Research Institute, the National Art School Gallery and the University of Technology, Sydney, combining strengths to create an original cross-cultural event.
