Film your idea of summer

With the aim of capturing an ideal Australian summer, Screen Australia has partnered with YouTube to develop a national online initiative, Map My Summer.

Film enthusiasts are encouraged to submit their idea of the Australian summer via video to the YouTube Map My Summer portal. Videos can range from a clip taken on a mobile phone to a short film, with the only stipulations that it must have been shot after 1 December 2010 and is an expression of summer.

To get an idea of what to submit, local filmmakers Ariel Kleiman, Luke Doolan and Amy Gebhardt were asked to film their ideas of summer. View their videos here.

Well-known filmmaker, Dr George Miller (Mad Max, Babe, Happy Feet) will oversee the process and select and mentor one of these talented filmmakers to create a final short film using the uploaded footage. This film will then have its premiere at a gala event at the Sydney Film Festival in June 2011.
