GRAPHIC Competition – call for entries

Combining the art of storytelling, animation and music, global animation competition GRAPHIC is open to illustrators, animators and storytellers of all ages, levels and styles. 2012 sees the GRAPHIC animation festival held at Sydney Opera House from 9 – 11 November with the full program set to be announced in September.

Judges for the GRAPHIC global animation competition include animation director of Animal Logic, Marco Marenghi (Walking with Dinosaurs 3D), director Chris McKay (Robot Chicken TV series and co-director of Lego: The Piece of Resistance), animation director Daniel Jeannette (Happy Feet, Where the Wild Things Are), GRAPHIC co-curator and director of Top Shelf productions, Jordan Verzar.

Entry requirements ask animators, illustrators and storytellers to create an original short animated film that is no longer than three minutes in duration. Creators then upload the film to the GRAPHIC festival YouTube Channel. The public vote for their favourite short animated film and the top twenty animations are then submitted to the aforementioned panel of industry experts for judging.

With a mixed bag of prizes that are selected by the judges as well as the public, Best Animated Short at GRAPHIC wins $10 000 and a trip to the GRAPHIC Festival at Sydney Opera House, Best Animated Short wins $5000, and the Animal Logic People’s Choice Award also wins $5000.

The competition closes at midnight on Sunday 28 October. For more information and to enter, head to the GRAPHIC Festival YouTube Channel.
