If you’re in Melbourne from 21 – 24 March, here’s a chance to get behind the work and meet the artists, designers and makers behind a few key creative businesses in Collingwood and Fitzroy.
Consisting of eight events over the weekend, Meet the Makers includes talks, site visits, classes and a dinner – from an Art of Shoe Polishing Masterclass to Jeremy Wortsman discussing the The Jacky Winter Group to a wine and cheese meet-up with printmaker Cat Poljski – there’s a mixed bag of intriguing events. Opening night with artist Cat Poljski
Cat Poljski etchings are about buildings and masking the city. Her project revolves around the imagined cities that were never built; like a utopian dream sequence.
Learn the art of shoe polishing
Brothers Chris and Nick Schaerf are passionate about English shoes, whiskey, classicism and absolute quality. Enjoy a shoe polishing masterclass using the renowned Saphir Polish. Buff, brighten and rejuvenate whilst you drink the finest of whiskeys in an intimate and relaxed setting.
The Jacky Winter Group… let’s chat about illustration
Since 2007, The Jacky Winter Group, have represented the very best contemporary Australian commercial artists, connecting them with a broad range of clients both locally and internationally. How to apply for an artist space
Upstairs at the Napier is a non-profit artist run initiative managed by Melbourne-based contemporary artists. The Upstairs at the Napier crew have been specialising in converting beer establishments into art spaces since 2004. Enjoy a beer and a burger whilst you listen to the curator, learn about the space and how to apply.
Meet the artists at dinner
Meet the Makers is holding a special event at Fehily Contemporary, the newest player in the Collingwood contemporary art scene. Hear from the artists as they discuss their practices over a dinner catered by the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre. Exhibiting artists will be Richard Lewer, Abdul Abdullah, Tada Hengsapkul and Omar Adnan Chowdhury.
Meet the printmaker – let’s talk about etchings & editions with Cat Poljski
Cat Poljski has been producing and exhibiting locally, nationally and internationally for twenty-four years, with residencies in Beijing, New York and Munich. Chat, learn and investigate the art of printmaking over wine and cheese.
