New Matthew Barney Film In 2014 Adelaide Festival

A complete version of the 2014 Adelaide Festival visual arts program has been released. Between February 28 and March 16, The annual arts festival will showcase a mix of outstanding international and Australian theatre productions, music performances, dance pieces, writers and visual arts displays.

This year’s Artist’s Week, a week in the program solely dedicated to the visual arts, will be co-convened by internationally revered art historian Lars Bang Larsen. Alongside presenter Lars Bang Larsen, Another festival highlight will be an offering from award winning American film maker and artist Matthew Barney – who will be featuring the Australian premiere of River of Fundament, his latest major seven-part film project.

Exclusive to the Adelaide Festival, Art visionary Matthew Barney’s most recent work is based on Norman Mailer’s novel Ancient Evenings. Barney’s film, River of Fundament, has been created in the style of an epic film piece, and produced in collaboration with composer Jonathan Bepler.

As well as showcasing the latest works of renowned International and Australian artists, Artists Week will also include a series of workshops. This will be a rare opportunity for participants to work alongside and learn from selected artists, curators and writers to develop skills and understanding within their practice.

Participating artists include Benedict Drew (UK) Rä di Martino (ITA), Lars Bang Larsen (DEN), Glenn Barkley (NSW), Charlotte Day (VIC), David Haines & Joyce Hinterding (NSW) and more to be announced.
