Winning design from New York Magazine at SPD Publishing Awards

Published:  July 14, 2014

At the forefront of design direction at New York Magazine, turning out bi-weekly editions of pedigree journalism with content that leaps from the page, Karishma Sheth works full time on feature and supplement design. Before taking out the title of Magazine of the Year from SPD, Karishma has previously worked on projects for Doyle Partners and Pentagram – two design heavyweights in their own right.

The Society of Publication Designers (SPD) Competition recognises elite examples of design, as well as photography and illustration excellence in both print and digital platforms. Presented in the SPD Annual, which has become a coveted resource for editors, art directors, photographers, and typographers worldwide, Print Chairpersons Alex Grossman as Creative Director for Bon Appétit and Cybele Grandjean as Partner at Ligature led the judging of this year’s SPD Competition.

Having designed a tear-out zine, for the launch of the bi-weekly issue of New York Magazine, Karishma created a guide to art that can be seen in New York, curated by Jerry Saltz, the magazine’s art critic. Emerging from over 6,000 entries in more than 88 categories, with over 40 editorial creatives from print and digital on the jury, it’s an admirable feat to be recognised – let alone awarded – at the SPD Publishing Annual.
