The Short List – Type-Cast

A collective of young and emerging Melbourne designers, going by the name, The Short List, are being bold and are running their own exhibition – Type Cast – a typographic-themed event.

The group consists of 25 graphic designers/artists who work collectively or  individually on a range of projects. A recent write-up from their upcoming exhibition explains the crux of the group: “Having all graduated the same year from university, The Short List is an extremely tight-knit group who share the same values in the art and design world. One of our main goals for this proposal for an exhibition is to be able to blur the lines between design context and gallery.”

For the upcoming exhibition ‘Type-Cast’, each designer was briefed to create a typographic piece relating to the phrase “This IS a real job.” Artworks range from digital media, sculpture, painting, drawing and silk-screen printing, featuring the following designers: Adele Henderson,  Alexandra Hamilton,  Anna Hatzisavas,  Brian Cheung,  Caitlin Parkinson,  Cassandra Faye Lucas, Cassie Brock,  Dean Gordon,  Elise Andrews,  Fee Saxby,  James Oates,  Justin Bedford,  Kate Scally, Kelly Felton,  Lizzie Mai, Olivia York, Petra O’Donoghue,  Rachel Horgan, Ralph Alexander,  Renee Yvonne de Valle,  Tara Nangia,  Tiffanny Hallett and Yiannis Micha.

If you’d like to support emerging designers, the exhibition opens on 12 February from 6pm to 8pm at Tacit Contemporary Art, 312 Johnston Street, Melbourne. It runs until 3 March  (Wed-Fri 11am – 6pm, Sat – Sun 11am- 5pm).
