UXmas 2013: Daily Digital Treats for UX Designers

Published:  December 16, 2013

Last year we wrote about UXmas, the digital advent calendar for user experience designers. The team behind UXmas is back for 2013, launching a brand new design with brand new gifts.

“We were blown away with the traffic the site received last year,” reflects UX Mastery co-founder, Luke Chambers. “We launched UXmas partly as a way of giving back to the UX community during the festive season. But mostly we just thought the pun was too good to pass up.”

UXmas is a joint effort from the teams at Melbourne-based user experience design studio Thirst Studios and online training resource, UX Mastery. Each day, a new “gift” to the UX community is unwrapped.

UX tools of the trade

To date, the site has published a book excerpt about UX tools, an infographic about the history of usability, career tips for UX Designers, and a comic about personas. There are also a handful of discounts on training courses and books littered throughout the site, for those looking to up-skill over the summer break.

“The animated baubles were a neat effect last year, but we soon realised the design didn’t scale very well.” explains Thirst Studios’ UX Director, Benjamin Tollady. “This year we’ve gone with a timeline-style layout, with the article of the day appearing at the top.”

As with UXmas 2012, the team tipped that some of the best gifts are being unwrapped during the final stretch. Check under the tree in the lead-up to Christmas Day at uxmas.com.
