Here’s another example of bicycle riding intermingling with design. As part of Bikefest 2012, Melbourne is hosting the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and is calling for poster designs to promote the event, but with a vintage slant.
The ‘Bikefest Chasing Rainbows’ design competition pays homage to the much-loved vintage bicycle poster of the 1800’s. Vintage bicycle posters are now highly coveted and valuable collectors items and the art form represents the birth of product driven advertising. “In the 1800’s outdoor velodromes were bursting with fans and competitors and the vintage bicycle poster was as icon of this era”, says Melbourne Bikefest creative producer, Pip Carroll.
The winning poster designer will receive $1,000, and their poster printed and distributed across Melbourne, while four runners-up will receive $500 each. All entries will be displayed on the website during Melbourne Bikefest, which runs from 17 Feb – 17 March, 2012. Check out the brief here.
