Vivid Sydney is back this year and will run for an additional five nights – its longest run ever.

Expect the city of Sydney to be transformed with light art, illuminations,  world-class musical acts and inspiring, ideas talks and forums as Vivid Sydney kicks off. The festival will be celebrated for 23 nights from 27 May until 18 June.

Now in its eighth year, Vivid Sydney sees light art, installations and projections installed throughout the city and around the Sydney Harbour Foreshore. Sydney’s world famous icons, including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, become the canvas for light art on a grand scale.

In 2015, the festival featured more than 80 light installations and projections as part of Vivid Light; over 70 bands performed more than 1,502 programmed hours during Vivid Music; and an incredible 500 speakers featured in more than 150 talk events as part of Vivid Ideas.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the extraordinary growth of Vivid Sydney is undeniable. “In just seven years, Vivid Sydney has established itself as the largest festival of its kind in Australia, attracting a record 1.7 million people in 2015,”

“The festival has been instrumental in reinforcing Sydney as the creative industries’ hub in the Asia-Pacific region and transforming a traditionally quiet visitor period into one of the year’s busiest, delivering a record $63.2 million in visitor expenditure to NSW last year,” he added.

“Visitors from across the globe travel to Vivid Sydney. Last year more than 26,000 international visitors came here on Vivid Sydney travel packages and were able to see our iconic buildings bathed in vibrant colour, attend fantastic music events, hear world renowned speakers and see the city transformed into an outdoor gallery on a huge scale,” Ms Chipchase said.
