A Box At The Theatre Honours Patrons

STUDIO:  Collider
CLIENT:  Sydney Theatre Company

A curious display of stage props and costume has appeared at the Sydney Theatre Company. Backlit boxes cover an internal wall of the building, within each a mask, a skull, a key — eclectic items contained like scientific specimens.

A Box At The Theatre is the creation of Sydney film and design collective Collider. Wishing to thank their long term patrons and donors, the Sydney Theatre Company invited Collider to design a permanent installation piece to honour them. Identifying and ‘preserving’ key pieces and props from productions over the company’s history, each box displays the name of a donor, creating a link between them and the prop’s theatre piece, a link that recognises the dependant relationship between theatre and patron.
