Monster Children turns 10

To celebrate its 10th birthday youth/lifestyle magazine Monster Children has released a commemorative book that traces the history of the magazine from its impoverished beginnings in 2003 right through to its current international status.

Titled Ten Years of Monster Children Magazine, the book is a solid 300-page hardcover that features the best of Monster Children’s stories, art and photography, including interviews with some of the publication’s contributors and the folks who have championed the magazine over the last decade. Mike Mills, Mark Gonzales, Natas Kaupas, Ed Templeton, Thomas Campbell, Stephanie Gilmore and a host of others, discuss their experiences working on Monster Children.

Monster Children was founded by Chris Searl and Campbell Milligan in 2003 in Sydney as an alternative to the prevalent action sports titles in the market. The idea was to expand on the traditional surf and skate culture magazines to include art and photography (lots of black and white boobs), design and music. In 2010, a US edition launched with offices in New York and LA.

Monster Children’s contributing writers and photographers are some of the most recognised in their field,” writes Milligan. “No one likes a braggart, but we should mention that Peter Sutherland, Ryan McGinley, Scott Pommiere, Patrick O’Dell, Andy Mueller, Aaron Rose, David Kramer, Andy Jenkins, Evan Hecox, Dylan Redier, Ari Marcopolous, Jamie Brisick, Mark Twain, the LA Lakers and countless others have all contributed their genius to our pages.

“Our editorial staff is also an impressive assemblage of cool cats, many of them having been called upon to speak at creativity conferences, forecast trends, consult on pitches, develop ad campaigns, write jokes for Christmas crackers and, on occasion, wear their sunglasses indoors… These are the Monster Children.”

In conjunction with the launch of Ten Years of Monster Children Magazine, the publication will be collaborating with clothing, gear and accessory brands such as Chocolate, RVCA, HUF, Incase, Stance, Vanishing Elephant, Raen and MAKR to produce a series of limited edition products to be released throughout 2014.

The book is available at monsterchildren.com and bookstores around the globe.
