Start Hier explores living in 2030

Ineke Brunt and Iris Schmohl of Ymere, Hansje van Halem, Viktor Hachmang and several writers have come together over a collaborative publication which poses the question of human living in 2030. Densely flowed through page after page, the book of essays has been handsomely illustrated by Hachmang (cover illustrator of our Graphic Effect issue) and laid out by Halem, and while completely written in Dutch, a flip through the weighty compendium and urbane, high density and cramped geometry of Hachmang, a story appears none the less.

“Although I know it isn’t true, it felt like the client didn’t have any demands and I could work out what I thought was best for them,” explained Halem. “It was a joy working out this fantasy object together with an amazing illustrator, a very fine printer, a collaborative editor, with the best of materials and everyone keen on getting it right until the very last detail.”
