The Upmarket is the answer to all of our designer market prayers. Forget the struggle of keeping up with one-off or pop-up markets because on September 5, the Upmarket takes market shopping to a whole new level launching as a ‘regular’ design market for a ‘design-led city’.

Yes, you heard correctly, it’s regular and will be running every first and third Saturday of every month (rain, hail or shine). We bow down and thank The Upmarket gods!

Not only is the regularity of this design-y market opening the gateways to design shopping heaven. It’s the market location of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and bringing together the city’s best makers and shakers across all things design (including food!) that make The Upmarket head and shoulders above the rest. As the name suggests The ‘Upmarket’ is a little bit fancy, but damn good quality. And with quality comes a price tag. But rest assured, because forking out that bit extra will be worth every cent as it is supporting Melbourne’s talented creators.

The market is broken up into three different districts catering to every designer palette. The Design District features traders of fashion, interiors, homewares and lifestyle products attracting savvy market-goers and urbanites. The Upmarket is also going the extra mile by devoting five revolving stalls to new, emerging or graduate designers to promote and share their work. This recognises new talent but also keeps the market fresh as each time you visit you can discover what the younger creatives are bringing to the design community.

We all know Melbourne has a massive foodie culture, so we are delighted to know that The Upmarket is bringing us the best in food and design. The Larder district features a carefully curated selection of organic traders and local providores, so you can stock up on vegan ice-cream, Pat’s organic cultured veggies, Glux muesli and authentic chai. Once you move along from The Larder you can head over to the last district, The Heart of Dining to feed those Saturday cravings with some super snazzy street-styled food from the likes of Joyce and Louise, Goldilocks Lunchbox, Clever Polly’s and Karma Cola. Bring on the food coma.
