Matterhorn Lights

Published:  April 2, 2014

The Matterhorn is a mountain peak in the Alps between Switzerland and Italy, with a distinguished peak and romantically treacherous reputation — it was one of the last of the great Alpine peaks to be successfully climbed, a summit so dangerous it is estimated over 500 alpinists have died attempting to repeat the feat.

But now the mountain can be owned in a different way — product designer Luke Leuschke has scaled the Matterhorn down into lamp form, using topographic data supplied by the Swiss Federal Office of Topography, 3D modelled at a scale of 1:10,000. It sits on sustainably harvested Canadian Oregon timber and glows majestically, rechargeable via USB.

Available at for $60.

  1. Hi – just wondering if there’s an on / off switch or does the lamp glow continuously?
