The Big Design Market is true to its name. It is the biggest design market to hit the city of Melbourne. We’re talking over 230 independent designers from Australia and New Zealand along with design retailers are coming together to showcase the best of their work for one whole weekend, from 4 – 6 December at the Royal Exhibition Building. And this is in time for Christmas shopping with a huge range of exclusive goods across homewares, fashion, jewellery, textiles, furniture and more on sale.
desktop had a peek at the designer list this year and we are stoked to see some very familiar and very talented names. They include Create Design Awards 2015 judge Beci Orphin for Arro Home, Bridget Brodenham ceramics and Voiker Haug bespoke lighting. There are new names on the list this year and one of them include bespoke shoemaker and leather craftsmen Wooten.
Melbourne-based designer Emily Green will feature her first ever large scale installation at the event, too. Green, renowned for her use of unique and unexpected colour combinations across her ever-evolving range of fashion accessories and art prints, will create a monumental ‘chandelier’ that will fill the great dome of the Royal Exhibition Building with vibrant colours.
And to bask in the creative atmosphere, the organisers have thrown in some free workshops into the line-up this year. Learn how to make your very own embroidered design or create a small succulent terrarium with guidance from Amy Wong of Petite Green or make your own festive Babushka bunting with Tasha from Jubly-Umph.
Did we also mention that there would also be a macaron and champagne lounge? This event is already in our calendars.
