Captain Planet wanted to teach the world how to reduce, reuse and recycle, and Portland-based innovators Grove heard his cartoon call to action and have responded with Skatebacks – a collaboration with skateboard jewellery makers Maplexo to create a line of iPhone 4/4S covers that are made of 100% post-industrial skate board material.

The skateboard scraps come from California-based company, PS Stix who manufacture 4000 skateboards a day, which equates to 200 per hour, equaling almost three per minute (but who is counting?) that are then constructed into one-of-a-kind iPhone covers available in various vibrant, calm and neutral colour tones.

The Skateback iPhone covers are available for purchase via grovemade.com and retail for US $49.
